LABYRINTHS
"In a labyrinth, one does not lose oneself
In a labyrinth, one finds oneself
In a labyrinth, one does not encounter the Minotaur
In a labyrinth, one encounters oneself"
This April TCMoFA will host our annual Spring group exhibition with a beguiling and erudite theme: Labyrinths. "As opposed to a maze, the labyrinth's path is not intersected by other paths. There are no choices to be made, and the path inevitably leads to, and ends at, the center."
The labyrinth is a symbol of mysticism and revelation dating back millennia and encountered all over the world. A labyrinth can both represent and facilitate humanity's highest impulses: self discovery, rumination, meditation and reflexive cognition. It can also symbolize the agonizing triviality of mortality, an unrelenting march towards an inevitable end.
We humbly request your interpretation of the tortuous path. Whether it be metaphorical or literal- we invite you to embark on a journey into the labyrinth of your own design.
"The center of a maze can be found only if the walker takes the initiative... In a labyrinth, success is a natural consequence of the path's design."
